Circular Economy European Summit
The CIRCULAR ECONOMY EUROPEAN SUMMIT is being transformed to become a cross-cutting cornerstone of various Fira de Barcelona events that recognise sustainable development as a key issue for the future of industry.
The event devoted to the Circular Economy is based on the following strategic lines:
- Improving efficiency and reducing the use of resources.
- Identifying and creating new opportunities for economic growth and promoting the innovation and competitiveness of cities and their surroundings as well as their companies.
- Guaranteeing the security of supply of essential resources.
- Fighting against climate change and limiting the environmental impact of the use of resources.
CEES 2018 follows the same innovative format as last year’s edition, demonstrating and facilitating the cross-cutting nature of this sector. The circular economy will be addressed through various actions at different Fira events that have a niche in this sector, with the aim of covering the maximum number of verticals in industries related to this topic.

SMARTCITY EXPO WORLD CONGRESS
Barcelona 13-15 Nov
The rise of the sharing and collaborative economy has an increasing impact on cities as it generates more open, transparent and participatory solutions, while boosting public innovation. In parallel, the circular economy, which looks beyond the ‘take, make, dispose’ extractive industrial model, has become a top priority for governments around the globe, creating lofty expectations for its potential to contribute to a sustainable development of society, as the co-hosted Circular Economy European Summit will enhance. Yet the disruptive impact of some models is still arousing huge controversy while alternative modalities are opening up a new frontier of innovation for inclusive economies.
Coinciding with the Smart City Expo World Congress, the third edition of the Sharing Cities Summit will dig deeper into the challenges and opportunities of building inclusive and truly sharing cities, and the measures to be taken to spur the positive effects of collaborative practices and fight gentrification, in order to start turning last century’s degenerative economy into a new, regenerative and distributive one.
