Action for ALDFG mapping and retrieval VIDEO
Based on the visual documentation recorded, a six minutes length video was produced to present the pilot action and to be used for general public awareness raising purposes. Underwater images were filmed by the diving team that was in charge of the preliminary works and the final net removals. In addition retrieval operations were recorded on-board the Galicia’s Coast Guard vessel by CETMAR staff.
Removal of derelict fishing gears in protected areas
In the CleanAtlantic Project different pilot actions are being carried out focused on the retrieval of marine litter. This video addresses the problem of the abandoned, lost or otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) and shows the retrieval operation of a “ghost net” in the waters of the Cies Islands archipelago, which are part of the Atlantic Islands National Park.
CleanAtlantic Project: protecting the health of our seas
In the CleanAtlantic Project different case studies are being carried out focus on the retrieval of marine litter. This video summarizes the work developed to test the efficiency of a trawl gear adapted to remove marine litter from the seabed. The hauls were filmed by an underwater camera.
CleanAtlantic: Tackling Marine Litter in the Atlantic Area (subtitles in French and Portuguese)
This 6-minute video uses animation to present the marine litter issue and real images to explain how in CleanAtlantic we are working to address this. In this project, 19 organisations from 5 European countries are working to improve our capabilities in prevention, monitorisation, and reduction of marine litter in the Atlantic area, as well as to raise awareness on the magnitude of this environmental hurdle.

3rd CleanAtlantic coordination meeting in Brest
The CleanAtlantic consortium met in Brest on the 3-4 December 2018 to review the progress on project tasks and activities. During the meeting, partners presented their results achieved during the last 6-month period and proposed next steps to meet project objectives. This video was recorded during the meeting. Patricia Pérez, technical coordinator of the project, explains the project objectives and activities (only available in Portuguese and Spanish). Click on "View more" to play the video.
The CleanAtlantic project and the marine litter environmental threat
The CleanAtlantic project (2017-2020) is funded by the INTERREG Atlantic-Area Programme and it is coordinated by the Centro Tecnológico del Mar -Fundación CETMAR (Spain). CleanAtlantic aims to protect biodiversity and ecosystem services in the Atlantic Area by improving capabilities to monitor, prevent and remove marine litter.
